thru plastic glass
i love this stuff - it's a thick, clear plastic used to keep outdoor cafe areas warm and yet feeling like they're outdoors. the reflections and the visuals thru just dance and move so vividly.

this is a reflection-thru. three layers i've tried to make each equally compelling. Again, no photoshop play, this is all out-of-the-camera.

reflection ever watchful eye
I was told this was a visual description of me, an ever-watchful eye looking at and thru reflections. So, in a way i guess it's a self-portrait.

water ripple abstract
Water ripples under the Patton Avenue (Smokey Park) Bridge. Yes, it's where i found the gun a few days ago (turned over to the police), but i'm much more interested in this... the police, not so much.

cardboard decay
Sometimes nature does the careful and time-consuming abstract painting (like on this cardboard box) and i'm just hanging around to see and snap the photo...

Biltmore Iron and Metal
Today spent my lunch hour in a heavenly alpha state staring at metal and getting dusty at Biltmore Iron and Metal. A lovely place to meditate!

a reflection who i am
Lately been on a lovely visual journey into the multitudinal reflections of my downtown, Asheville. I've seen things in things, areas of thinglessness and bristling thingitude. I even saw myself in all this world, and loved it.

abstract yellow circle building
for some reason this reflection fascinates me. The (near) covering of something with something when neither seem important to the picture just amplifies the need to be seen. Or something? Or maybe because nothing really fits in the box? Or not? Or yes?

alley wall paint
When color is all over the place, i wonder about the nature of randomness - did the person in trying to cover things up knowingly make art simply by adhering to some inner esthetic?

cracked wall blue
Urban decay seems to me to be that near-perfect balance of man and nature, of false-order on top of false-chaos. So, too, can construction sites that are very similar, but moving in the direction of more false-order rather than away from it.

blur beach
Does it do more 'harm' than 'good' to give abstract photographs a title saying what it is a photograph of? I fear that reality-titles stops the viewer process of the photo as what it is becoming in the mind and switches to the list of what "it is a photograph of."
Check!

the self
Here's the thing. I'm now reading Susan Sontag's book of essays "On Photography" and i realize i want to, have to, begin writing my thoughts on the how and why of photography. My upcoming show at Harvest Records has made me re-evaluate and analyze what i'm doing as an artist. So, today's photo starts with a photo of the self.
I have many reflection shots so there's a bunch of photos that include me but - as i see them - aren't necessarily about me.
More thinking... more grokking...
