Christopher's garden near the Gas-up in West Asheville is a constantly renewing source of inspiration for me. Here he sets things where they seem right (or leaves them where he forgets them as he says) and so the random items and their arbitrary placement change constantly. With seasons changing over months and the light changing in minutes, it presents a constantly evolving art cycle/process that thrills me somewhere deep inside that's hard to define in words.
I respond to it by photographing it without self-consciousness. I am not thinking of concept or projection, of meaning or careful balance, just fitting as much mystery into the frame as is possible with the scale of garden detail.
His garden has soul. Thanks, Christopher.
